further, closer An exploration reflecting on the poetics of anthropomorphism through the lens of loss, impermanence, flux and fluidity. The work was presented as a solo exhibition that culminated from a studio residency at The Perth Centre for Photography, 2019.
The physical site of the gallery space informed the flow of abstracted images and experiments in process.
An inhuman tongue intersects the main entrance, piercing, attempting to conflate the entry points between the entrance threshold of the gallery space and the human mouth. This point of entry was coupled with a series of composite works depicting human flesh blended with selected built spaces. The work considers the deep complexities of the anthropomorphic tendencies inherent in human thinking and offers a playful, fictive exploration of urban and live spaces.
Central to the studio residency was a series of process driven work observing the disintegration of images that were immersed in vessels of water. This series of experiments was time based documentation of the deterioration and eventual disappearance of selected analogue and inkjet prints. These experiments continued into the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition. Many of the analogue prints were much slower to breakdown, the inkjet prints disappeared at a faster pace, leaving a slush of blue tinged pigments offering another medium to be reworked, recycled into new contexts.
